PAHI 53 CATAMARAN
I have never been on a Pahi 53 catamaran. Could you please tell me how it compares in size to a catamaran like a Lagoon 470 ? How many people can accomodate a Pahi 53 catamaran ? Why is your lounging cockpit so different from other catamarans ? You mention a flexible structure, isn’t it scary for a catamaran ? Is there air conditioning in the sleeping cabins ? Your shallow draft catamarans can anchor close inshore. May we use the tender to access the beach ?
How come your prices are lower than those of your competitors ? How come your catamaran cruises appear on other internet websites? What could possibly happen to us if if we booked with an other yacht charter company in Greece? I have never been on a Pahi 53 catamaran. Could you please tell me how it compares in size to a catamaran like a Lagoon 470?
Our Pahi 53' were specifically designed for Archipel Club by mythical James Wharram to suit the demanding Aegean conditions (windy, dry and choppy seas requiring fine hulls, moderate windage and plenty of platform clearance to avoid slamming ), whereas the Lagoons are more Carribean oriented (moderate beam winds, ocean swells and occasional rain).
The Pahi 53' is 6 ft longer than a Lagoon 470. Cabins are same size but our en suite bathrooms are larger (4 ft X 4 ft). Our cabins are independently accessed from the deck, allowing great privacy and avoiding the "traffic jam" of the narrow passage ways found elsewhere. Our flat deck is about twice the surface (790 sq ft). Only the deck saloon is smaller but still confortable for 8 guests: since it does not rain in Greece in summer, it is more than adequate. Also, our convertible deck saloons are pleasant and cool, avoiding the green house effect commonly found in the enclosed type saloons. We have an extra navigation and steering enclosed cokpit seating 5. Our hinged swimming platform is 15 X 11 ft and will accommodate up to 8 guests, whereas typical production cats offer just 2 narrow stern "sugar scoops".
Because our Pahi 53 are performance oriented, they weigh the 35% less than a Lagoon 470 and the costs runs accordingly. Furthermore our cats are offered a lot better equipped than any of the other charter catamarans in Greece (large dinghy with 15 HP outboard, watermaker, full electronics, computer, internet connection, etc). Tanks for 1000 lt of water and 750 lt diesel are great for autonomy since large catamarans seldom find docking space in the small island harbours. How many people can accomodate a Pahi 53 catamaran ?
In Active cruise, up to 9 persons + skipper.
In Cosy cruise, up to 8 persons + skipper & steward.
Why is your lounging cockpit so different from other catamarans?
Our “convertible” lounging cockpit is a compromise: when sailing in summer in the Aegean Sea it offers more comfort (its walls may be rolled up or down accordingly), wider side decks (phenomenal deck space for sunbathing) and considerably less windage than any other similar size catamaran. Run of the mill multihulls ’ deck saloons turn into ovens when sailing under the usual sunny and windy conditions (salt spray = closed hatches), their crews ending up…outside (unless aircon and a generator are at hand!) -of course, should we want to sail in more rigorous climates, our “convertible” cockpits would appear less adequate. You mention a flexible structure, isn’t it scary for a catamaran ?
Absolutely not, most to the contrary it is a safety and durability issue. By allowing flexibility, impact and shock loads have been removed from the normal working loads of our catamarans. The Chinese tale of the oak Vs the reed, is all too well known.
Is there air conditioning in the sleeping cabins ?
There is no need for air conditioning as there is almost everyday in summer a cool notherly breeze in the Cyclades islands and 2 inches deck insulation on our Pahi catamarans. For the rare windless days, each cabin is equiped with a fan. Your shallow draft catamarans can anchor close inshore. May we use the tender to access the beach ?
Affirmative, but only if there is a pier or a marked landing on the beach or it’s a deserted island altogether. Maritime regulations prohibit use of power boats within 100 yards from shore. It’s very sensible as it is intended to protect swimmers and divers. How come your prices are lower than those of your competitors?
We specially devised our catamarans for charters and cruises in the Greek islands, whereas our competitors use production boats indeed more versatile but also more expensive, as these have to cater for the needs of owners based in the English Channel as well as charter operators in the Caribbean or the NW Pacific! Furthermore our yachts were custom built at a Swiss run boatyard in SE Asia using high grade composites, thus reducing costs and overall weight by 20% compared to conventional GRP constructions. How come your catamaran cruises appear on other internet websites?
Although we sell mainly directly to our customers, we also have a few selected agencies selling our products in the US, Canada, France and Switzerland. Quality wise the products are the same, only prices may vary. What could possibly happen to us if if we’d book with an other yacht charter company in Greece? Watch this video !!
