SAILING the GREEK ISLANDS | Local knowledge and advice
If you're not familiar with life onboard a shared boat, these Faq's should help you to get a better understanding of what our catamaran
sailing trips are like. Should you need a personal advice, please, feel free to contact us, we'll gladly give you concrete answers.
What is the weather like in the Cyclades
islands ?
MAY - JUNE
Carpets of colourfull flowers drape the islands, the days are long and you may enjoy walks without fear of sizzling in the sun. All the tourist infrastructure and transportation on the islands are operating but without the crowds. There maybe a few clouds in early may otherwise there’s an average of 12 hrs sunshine per day. Sea water may be felt a bit cool at 19°C. Average air temperature at 21°C.
JULY - AUGUST
Greece like in the post cards: cloudless skies and constant northerly winds that cool the air.
Average of calm days are 3 per month and they are hot. Otherwise average air temperatures around 25°C and the sea at 20°C. Some destinations like Mykonos and Santorini gather large international crowds so make sure you reserve your ferry and air tickets in advance, and of course your sailing trip with us!
SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER
In the fall, crowds are gone home but good dry weather is still around! The strong summer winds have calmed down, summer heat is receding and just the sea water temperature has risen. All in all its a delightful season to visit the islands. To be frank, the only down side are the shorter days. There could be a few clouds and even more rarely rain in the first half of October, otherwise the average sunshine are at 9 hours per day, average seawater temperature at 22°C and air temperature at 20°C.
Are there any risks associated with the Greek debt crisis and our sailing trip ?
The turmoil occurs in Athens and the large towns of Greece. On the other hand transportation strikes, industrial action or riots have never been experienced in the tight knit island communities, where people depend too much on tourism to jeopardize their income. To the contrary, all the islanders complain about the disorder in Athens, which prevents tourists from enjoying themselves and travel freely. To be sure to steer away from potential trouble, keep clear from Athens city center and prefer hotels in the ports of Piraeus or Rafina. If you really want to visit the historical center, prefer the Plaka area and avoid Omonia and Sintagma areas.
When possible, book your flights directly to Mykonos, Santorini or Herakleion which are holiday destinations close from Paros with international airports and ferry connections.
Also, remember that disaster sells: media have a tendency always to exagerate things for the worst. So far none of our cruises was ever canceled or even bothered by disturbances occuring on the mainland , to the contrary everyone on board had a great time!
What will the accommodation be like ?
Our yacht has 4 double cabins all with private bathrooms, well ventilated and equiped with fans. If a third person travels with you and does not want to pay the single extra for a double cabin, he/she can book the economical pilot cabin and share your bathroom.
